5 [photo] SEPTEMBER 16TH IN CHICAGO DIA DE LA RAZA On Friday October 11 the Chicano Indian Cultural Center together with other Third World organizations and anyone who just happened to be interested joined in a celebration of "Dia de la Raza. Briefly, "El Dia de La Raza" commemorates the birth of el Mestizo on this continent. However, because of certain elements that all Third World people have in common--everyday struggles and oppression at the hands of the Anglo society--we unite to show our solidarity , working toward a day of united retaliation. The rally was held on the steps of the Pentacrest from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in an attempt to disrupt some of the Homecoming destrampe the University had going on. Francisco Costilla y Gene Rave spoke for the Center and Les the Man spoke for the Farmworkers Support Committee. El Teatro de Zapata, Los Bailadores Zapatistas and a dance troupe from West Liberty performed also. e. Sanchez ************ BOYCOTT UVAS & LECHUGA ATTICA BRIGADE IN IOWA CITY On June 15, 16, and 17 the Attica Brigade held its first National Convention in Iowa City. This would have been reported in our summer edition of EL LABERINTO, however there weren't no one fool enough to stick around here to publish one. Anyway... . . Actually there were a few people here messing around with their books when the convention took place y fueron sorprenddidos cuando doce Chicanos de Califas vinieron. The Revolutionary Student Brigade (the name was changed at the convention), is astudent organization opposed imperialism and the whole system of oppression and exploitation. The events of the convention are secondary to the major issue--should Chicanos participate in such universal political ideologies, and if so, is a Marxist outlook the answer to the Chicanos' problems? Lost chicanos que vinieron expressed a belief in the purpose of the Brigade, however most saw it as a tool to work with to further Chicano liberation. As El Movimiento progresses problems such as these must be dealt with . We must not forget our priorities, but we must also be realistic in envisioning our futures. t.
