10 [emblem] En el espiritu de los hermanos Zavala, this ed. has decided to give away Brown Buffalo-type points. (ED.Note: the hermanos Zavala are animales muy estrano that come and go--most frequently seen in Chicago, but occasionally they migrate ((Migrate?)) to I.C.).********************* The first distrabucion is a big one . . . To all los Chicanos (and others) who participated in the three day fast sponsored by CHALE (Chicano Association for Legal Education) in support of the farmworkers, five hundred brown buffalo points APIECE (they can also be converted into calories). Definitely over fifty people participated in the fast and many more attended the rally. Later, about fifty people marched to president boyd's office to confront him about the university's policy of buying non-union lettuce. The dude didn't show up and the marchers left, plans of a boycott of all UI cafeterias in the making. ************************** ***************** Heavy congratulations to Ben Pintor, Geri Reyes, Diana Gutierrez, Becky Castillo and anyone I might have unfortunately (and accidentally) left out, for GRADUATING in December. EN Because Iowa City lacks a sufficient number of brown and red faces, the people from the Center here try to keep in touch with the Raza in surrounding communities. Too often, we're tied down here with studies or committed elsewhere, but the point is that we've heard of an incident at a Davenport high school that requires serious action. Two Chicanos were held by teachers at the school and beaten by the vice-principal. When the police arrived, the two Chicano youths were arrested. If there are circumstances that we don't know about,. then they should be made clear; if not, an investigation should begin, starting with the teacher's actions, and the police's actions, the news media's actions (the article in the paper was very "messed up") and so on. . . ************************ **************** Brown buffalo points to TRUCHA for leaving their barrio to travel over here. Compania Trucha is full of ex-members of our Center here and they all andan en muy buenas ondas. That reminds of our teatro. Humumumummmmm Things'll work out eses, only if we work Together. . . ************************************ ************************* En noviembre this ed. went to a symposium in New Mexico and met a lot of together Chicanos. People ask the ed. for a full report about the trip, but really, it became a personal type thing for one who had never st foot on the beautiful land of Aztlan. To Lucille and Sandra Duran, Herman Garcia, Tino Villanueva, Juan Bruce Novoa, Tomas Ibarra Fausto and todos, un warm abrazo en el espiritu de carnalismo. ********************************************* **************************************** Final brown buffalo points go to the Teacher Corps interns. The energy these people possess and the many things they have already accomplished should be an inspiration to us all.
