The members are: Nancy (Rusty) Barcelo - California - PhD Candidate, Higher Ed. Randy Terronez - Davenport, IA - Grad. Student, Political Science Gary Lozano - Ft. Madison, IA - UI grad, Urban Planning, 1977 Loa Bailadores spring performances will be at the following schools: March 28 - Iowa City; Shambaugh Auditorium - Chicano/Native American Week - 8:30 p.m. April 14- Des Moines, IA - Pan American Week - 3 performances 10:00 a.m., Drake University for the elementary schools. May5 - University of Wisconsin at Madison - Cinco de Mayo Celebration, 8:00 p.m. The dance troupe is looking forward to attending the national Ballet Folklorico festival in Topeka, Kansas, during the last week of June. As a result of attending the festival, we hope to expand and improve our dancing program. We urge all persons interested to come and join us in dancing. We're in desparate need of male dancers. There are no prerequisites or requirements necessary for dancing. All that is needed are your two feet, preferably a left and a right, and a strong will to learn. Come and join us at the Hillcrest Recreation room on Sundays from 2:00-4:00 p.m. during rehearsals. Vengan a tirar Chancla. [2 emblems] To: Student Senate Office of Student Activities Iowa Memorial union From: Darlene Wind, Chairperson CIASU Dear Senators: We are present today at this meeting of the University of Iowa Student Senate as representatives of the Chicano-Indian American Student Union and the Black Student Union. We have come to show our concern over the fate of the Minority Seat of the Student Senate, Collectively we are of the opinion that the Minority Seat on the Student Senate is an important asset for those of us who are under-represented in the decision-making process of this university, and though we are aware of the problems we have experienced in learning to use this asset wisely, we are advocating that minority representation on the Student Senate be continued. In its creation, the Minority Seat of the Student Senate symbolized the Senate's recognition of the need for equal representation for all persons governed in a democracy, and exemplified the Senate's willingness to take positive action toward guaranteeing that equal representation become a reality.
