THE WORLD BETWEEN TWO RIVERS A new book on Native Americans is now available at Iowa Book & Supply. It's called The World Between Two Rivers: Perspectives on American Indians in Iowa. Included are the friends we all rub elbows with--the people of the Mesquakie tribe. W.R.A.C. Films Throughout the school year the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) will be showing films concerning women around the world and their struggles. Several of these are about Latinas, e.g. las Cubanas. The entire list of films and showing times is posted at both the CIACC and WRAC. TEATRO ZAPATISTA The Teatro needs members for this center program if it is to continue! Actors, dancers, musicians!!! Everyone welcomed. [M?}iguel Ojeda is the new Performing Groups Consultant for the center. This man will be working closely with all three companies of the collective troupe: Teatro Zapatista, Lost Bailadores Zapatistas, and El Conjunto Zapatista. Lend him your support and ideas. Para las Chicanas: Did you know that there has never been a play written for and by Chicanas performed on this campus? A number of fine actos lie shelved and gathering dust in the center library that deal with "la mujer". Orale, esa, whatcha waitin' for? See Estella Portillo's dramas in El Grito in particular. WORK/STUDY Work/study positions may still be available at the center for spring semester. The positions which have not been filled are: under the Campus Programs category--Director; WRAC Liason; Graduate Program; and Workshop/Conference Coordinator; under the Community programs category--Director; Fort Madison Prison Visitation; Tama Youth Projects; and Community Dinners. Finally--House Librarian/Historian. For more information see Darlene Wind, Resident Manager of the Chicano/Native American Cultural Center. Phone: 353-4753. EL NAHUATZEN El Nahuatzen, a Chicano/Native American poetry magazine was published this semestre. Congratulations to editor Lowell Jaeger and all the writers who contributed to the publication! Anyone interested in subscribing to El Nahuatzen or submitting working for publication wrote: to Lowell Jaeger, c/o Special Support Services, 310 Calvin Hall, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242. EL LABERINTO El Laberinto, the newsletter you're reading, is soliciting news articles, feature writing, essays, fictions, poems, etcetera. Give us your ideas, words, agressions, etcetera. They'll find expression in our publication. CIASU!!! To all union members and officers: if you give the center's telephone number for incoming messages PLEASE PICK THEM UP! Your unanswered messages are cluttering up the chalkboard. We are now rapidly approaching our 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chalkboard. (If you think that figure is long, you should see some of the messages that have accumulated for Jose--who isn't even here anymore!) EL CUARTO OSCURO El Cuarto Oscuro, also known as The Dark Room, where photography fiends hatch all kinds of mischief, is presently, desperately in need of expansion. Someone has suggested using the room where the ping-pong table once was as the site for a new well-equipped dark room. Sounds good people, all we need now are persons to write a proposal for funds to construct and equip this photography center. 2
