Eddie: There Election Ruler should be included in the SU Newsletter Lowell February 2, 1978 President, Black Student Union Dear Sir, The Elections Board will waive its right to hold the senatorial election for the minority seat simultaneously with the February 28, 1978 Student Senate election. Elections Board does however retain its right to hold future elections for the minority seat. The Black Student Union, in conjunction with the Chicano Indian American Student Union, will be allowed to hold the election for the seat provided they follow these procedures: 1. Elections Board will be notified in writing four (4) days before the election of the date and place of the election. 2. Candidacy and voting rights will be extended to all Blacks, Indian-Americans, and Chicanos. 3. All candidates will submit to Elections Board a valid petition stating that he/she is a candidate for the minority seat, signed by fifty (50) members of the minority constituency, along with addresses and University identification numbers. The deadline for these petitions will be three (3) days before the election. 4. The person(s) responsible for holding the minority senate seat election must submit to Elections Board a sample ballot, to be used in this election, and the ballot must be approved by Elections Board. 5. Sign-in sheets including Name, address and ID number of the voter must be used, and must be submitted to Elections Board with the results of the election. The ballots must be retained by the responsible person(s) in case of complaints about election irregularities. 6. Secret ballot procedures must be used. 7. The Elections Board will have original jurisdiction over any election complaints. Failure to follow any of these points may result in Elections Board invalidating the election and/or not certifying the elected candidate to Student Senate. If you have any problems, or questions, please contact the Elections Board. Sincerely David C. Bahls Chairman, Elections Board cc: Lowell Jaeger Chicano Indian American Student Union
