Use of Coloring Book It is suggested that the teacher introduce each picture with appropriate historical information before permitting the children to color. THIS BOOK WAS NOT DESIGNED MERELY TO FILL TIME OR RECREATE WITH JUST A SIMPLE ACTIVITY AS MOST COLORING BOOKS ARE. This book is a wealth of illustrated historical, cultural and social knowledge that should be presented in a logical and informal method. Upon completion of the orientation for the teacher and child, the coloring book offers a selection of activities that will empahsize the theme of each picture. Suggested Procedure 1. The teacher should read all material pertaining to the page to be colored. 2. Show the picture to the class and read the captions in both languages, explain or point out all objects in the picture. 3. Answer all questions. Discuss relevant concepts of the picture. Relate it to modern times, permit questions. 4. Color the picture. 5. Do the activity that was designed to reinforce the theme of the picture, or develop one of your own. The background information found in the Teachers Guide is not exhaustive, nor are the suggested activities the only activities that can be done to enforce various themes and concepts of the book. They are meant merely as a taking off point. 39
