January 1941 Page 19 On H.P. Lovecraft's "The Festival" You'll wander there alone? Mortal, beware. / In Kingsport's Yuletide gloam there beats / The pulse of peril. Shun those sheeted streets. / Incarnate evil lurks half hidden there. / When I looked down that dreadful passage heaped / With snow, cold thoughts formed in my mind like hoar / Forming on long dead lashes. Swiftly before / My eyes chill Terror loomed -- and leered -- and leaped! / And Terror clutched me with his icy claw, / And beat me with bleak wings; and like a spear / Poised high his frozen beak. There quivered up / One fluted note. A frosted net of fear / Enfolded me. I fell, and numbly saw / That grisly shape bend low, to sup...and sup...
