October 5, 1940 SUN SPOTS Page 17. AND NO, WHAT? (Con'T from Page 9) sooner or later the Doctor would find out what had happened and stop the disease from further spread. And this is exactly what happened, although the Dr. and the Dictator died before the disease was stopped. Thus the country was saved, and released from the dictator's grasp, to return once more to a republic. The young American knowing this, smiled to himself, and murmured his last words to himself: "And now---what?" THE END SOLAROID CLUB (Con1t from P.14) la Ree read the list of books now in the club library, several donated by Mr. Wellman. A post-card from Harry Warner was also read, Slips .of paper were handed around and those that had nor already done so, voted for their favorite fan mags in the Widner poll. The plans for the extra large issue of Sun Spots were revealed, and were warmly accepted. A motion to take some money from the treasury to treat the members present was unanimously accepted. Mr. Wellman said that he would bring Peps-cola for the next meeting, and the club greatly appreciated this, Mr, Wellman then read a true ghost story, and the meeting broke up. Time 45 minutes. Welcoming in Shangri-LA (Con't P. 15} being that he likes Amazing and Fantastic Adventures, Also, The Voice of The Imagi-Nation is his favorite fan magazine. Kellar and Schachrer are his favorite authors, but how they got above some like Moore, Smith (Which one? Ed) Weinbaum, Hall, Williamson, and so on, I do not know. It's lucky no one knows my favorites (Quicky, eh?). We both retired for a early nights rest at about one, and talked until three. Thus ended a splendid evening in Shangri-LA, and a most hearty welcome, M'y, how lucky they were to meet important fans like us-(who just tried to throttle me?). THE END "the sage says": "Stepson of Space", Raymond Z Gallun's short in the October ASTONISHING STORIES, is well worth your time. It is the story of an eight year old boy and his amazing "invention"—an invention which transmits objects to and from his strange friend,"Mr. Weefles." "Mr. Weefles" it turns out, is the sole survivor of the ancient race of dwellers on the moon. The lunarian saves the life of the small boy, but himself is destroyed by a bomb, which the boy's father sends by means of the strange "invention". (DBT)
