December, 1940. SUN SPOT S Page 16 THE TRASMBASKET[[?]] By N.E .Body FLASHES: Rumors circulating about Chicago have it that the suspended FANTASTIC ADVENTURES(Scoop SSp, Oct./40.)might be revived by Ziff-Davis in the near future. This is mainly due to the great amount of pressure put on the editors when the readers found out about the mag being suspended. The mag. will most likely not be changed much, if any............News from our spies have it that something big is about to break at Fictioneers, Inc. At the same time, a report is floating about NYC that a new Science fiction mag is about to be started. Could it be that Editor Pohl is to edit a third mag?..... FAN AUTHORS & ARTISTS MAKE GOOD: Sam Moskowitz and D.B.Thompson, two prominent fans have both had stories excepted by Pro-mags. Sam has had a 12,000 word novelet accepted by Tremaine's new mag.COMEY, and the story will appear in the second issue, which is shortcoming. D.B.Thompson has sold a 6,000 word short to ASTOUNDING called "Eccentric Orbit", for $60.00...At the same time John Victor Peterson, already in the upper brackets, sold a 10,000 word novelet, also to appear in the second issue of COMET ...John Giunta, popular fan artist has had some of his art work accepted by Tremaine, and it is being featured in the first two issues of COMET. Congratulations to all of these popular boys. Good luck, and future success. In the last month, your editors have been done more dirt by one James V.Taurasi, than any one person or group in these United States. FIRST: He starts a new fan magazine called THE SOLAR PRESS. Doesn't this name strike a chime somewhere in you readers mind. Of course, SUN SPOTS is published by The Solar Press.(The plagiarist). This [[underline]]rag[[end underline]], is a four page mess selling for 5[[cent symbol]]. (The same price of SSp!) SECOND:He puts in a publication called the FANTASY FICTION FIELD,that the date for the Newarkon is definatly May 4, 1941. This is right on top of coming to Newark and telling us that all we have to do is find out what public opinion is for a date. So we spend good money putting out what hundreds of post-cards asking for a date, while he behind our backs is quietly setting a date. And do you think he'd send us a copy of the mag, or at least write and tell us whats happened. You can be your science fiction collection he didn't. He just kept pulling the wool further and further over our eyes, for: LASTLY: He tells us that when we have decided on the date to hold the conference, that he has all the publishers in NYC lined up for publicity for the convention. His idea of lining up the editors is just so much bull! Why when Fred Pohl tried to contact Sam Moskowitz as to whats going on, he didn't even have the honor of haveing his letters answered. The fact is that the only editor in NYC that Mr, Taurasi might be able to get publicity from is Charles Horning,Editor of the two 'Always on time' magazines, FUTURE AND SCIENCE FICTION. So in winding up this edition of the TB, I'D like to warn the public. Do not believe what J.V.Taurasi says. He is untrustworthy!
