April, 1941. SUN SPOTS Page 21. resigned from the Solaroid Club. To tell the truth, I was shocked! He was such a n ice secretary. *** So ALCHEMIST is folding. I was beginning to wonder why the mag didn't come. It's a gyp. Oh well.. ((Oh, yes, Lew, we didn't get the last issue. What happened? --eds)) *** Come to think of it, SUN SPOTS has degraded since the annish. After all from over 40 pages to 15 or 16 is a big drop. ((An anniversary doesn't happen every month--eds)) However, the mag's regularity in arriving in the fans mail boxes is something to be prowd of. *** Some of those "Sun Squawks" are amusing and informative. *** SUN SPOTS did not scoop the field with news of the new Lovecraft novel in WEIRD TALES, as PLUTO had a piece about it, including a summary of the yarn. Phil Schumann's poem-article is swell. Too bad about the fall of PLUTO. *** Say, that lettering on SUN SPOTS cover is ver smooth and neat looking. ((Thanks to D.B.Thompson--Eds))The Fornt cover is fine, though the empty spaces could be filled up more. *** Please excuse any undesirable remarks I may have uttered. Maybe it's because I'm in a bad mood tonight. Maybe the issue was too short. Anyway, I hope you can bring SUN SPOTS up to the number one position in the fan mag poll. ((That position belongs to that top fan mag, SPACEWAYS--eds))Anyway, I hope so. I enclose herein, 25[[cent symbol]] for a six issue subscription. Seems that I am more interested in SUN SPOTS than any other fanzine. ((Thanks for your loyality--eds)) Bob Tucker, Box 260, Bloominyon, Ill. Cheerio Chum: Today I got around to binding the Anniversary issue of SUN SPOTS, so of course I read it at the same time. I notice that I have advertised to the world that I think the magazine stinks. My my. Did I actually send you that ad, or did you pick the phrase out of one of my letters. ((Yes, you paid for an ad, but we did get the phrase from a letter--eds)) *** Anyway, this anniversary issue has made me reverse my opinion. The issue is a classic, not only in quantity, but in quality. Enclosed you will find my cash subscription, 25[[cent symbol]] for the next 6 issues, beginning with the one following the anniversary issue. I am not in a position to trade any more, for LE ZOMBIE is suspending publication for a short while. I expect to mail out the January issue in a day or two, and it will carry a notice of the suspension, plus an explanation. ((Swell issue, Bob, sorry that you'll be out of action for a month or so.--eds)).((Oh yes, thanks for the fine article, we'll use it soon.---eds.)) D.B.Thompson, 2302 U. Street, Lincoln, Nebr. Hi Boys: You fellows sure pulled a slick one, coming out right after the Annish with a good-looking colored-paper cover. The cover of the Annish was good, but this was really much better in every respect. I'll admit I can't tell what it is the two space ships are shoving around. It might be a piece of Collososaurus steak, only the outline is not smooth enough. The mountainous planet-scape is good. *** The yellow paper has one distinct advantage over the white. It is practically opaque, so none of the letters on the other side show through. However, the white paper is quite satisfactory. *** The idea of a letter issue is O.K. too. It will give the readers food for some argument,
