SUN SPOTS Page 7 SUN SQUAWKS READERS' LETTERS Dear Eds: You're going to have Harry Schmarje on your neck. Tsk, tsk, only ten mimeod pages. What he won't have to say about that? Seriously, tho', it was sort of a disappointment after waiting so long. The new format idea sounds okay. Photographs will be swell. (We are planning to have some in future issues.--eds) I suppose you'll have one from that Solaroid meeting the Futurians attended, huh? (Perhaps--eds) Show us some of the members of the Solaroid club, too. I didn't think much of "Saturnian Occurrence". I couldn't do any worse myself. The science seemed screwy. "The Trash Basket" was interesting. "Is Singleton Alive" was also interesting and well written. "Fantasy Synopsis" was good; "Death on Saturn" wasn't. As for the art-work. I didn't like Jenkins. I'd rather see de la Ree's work on the cover, Harrison's "Robot" was good but I remember seeing something very similar to it some place, Gaetz was fair. Yours in Stf, LARRY SHAW, 1301 State St., Schenectady, N. Y. Salutations, SUN SPOTTERS: SUN SPOTS is still on the upgrade. Spelling mistakes are on the decline. If this trend continues, the most outstanding characteristic of the fanzine will be gone. Imagine reading SUN SPOTS, and finding page after page with all words correctly spelled! You imagine it--I can't. (All right, we'll imagine for you.) Don't let the fellows who yell for even edges bother you. (You won't anyway.) The pages of this issue are uniform and good looking. I'm in favor of dummying, when it is possible, and when that is done, even edges are not much trouble; but so long as you haven't time for dummying, the mag is all right as it is, as far as appearance goes. Top items in the current issue are "The Trash Basket," "The Way I See It," "Editor Meets Fan," the Quiz, and Bronson's cartoon. Improved appearance is bound to result in improved material, since the fans will want to have something to do with a good-looking pub. (We hope so--eds.) Sincerely, "THE SAMPLER." SOLAROIDS CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY The Solaroid Club of Westsood held a lively meeting at the home of Roderick Gaetz in celebration of its second anniversary on the evening of July 24th. In attendance were Manly Wade Wellman, Charles Beling, James Breckenridge, Roderick Gaetz, Gerry de la Ree, Jr., Bob Blanchard, Albert Kent, Jr., and Mary Gae Gaetz.
