FANTASY NEWS PAGE FINE SCIENTIFILMS by Mario Racic, Jr. After so many months of waiting, at last I had the pleasure of seeing the truly great stfilm "METROPOLIS" at the World Convention. I thot the film was really fine, especcially, since tthe film was made more than 10 years ago. I'm sure, that all attending enjoyed the film. Korda has engaged William Cameron Menzies to direct his technicolor fantasy film "THE THRIED OF BAGDAD". Korda & Menzies, you will recall, produced "THINGS TO COME". Movie STORY MAGAZINE for Aug. contains pictures and story of the fantasy film "WIZARD OF OZ". LIFE, for July, 10th, has scenes from "ON BORROWED TIME". Basil Rathbone has been added to the cast of HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME ________________________________ PROFESSIONAL SCIENCE FICTION RATINGS by Harry Warner (Editorial Note: The condensed presentation of the ratings this week was caused by the long convention article and is not permanent) AMAZING STORIES AUGUST 1939 WARRIOR OF MARS 58% WORLD BENEATH ICE 81 THE MAN WHO WALKED THRU MIRRORS 90 WIVES IN DUPLICATE 77 MYSTERY OF THE COLLASPING SKYSCRAPERS 76 JOHN HALE'S HOLLYWOOD MYSTERY 73 total 74% _____________________________________ THE VISACREEN A new stf magazine titled FUTURE FICTION may be published this Fall and it may hit the stands around the 15th of August. It will probably be published bi-monthly and have the first cover by Scott. It'll be, if it comes out, a companion magazine to SCIENCE FICTION. Dawson'd Bookstore in Los Angeles is offering a collection of first editions of 54 Jules Verne novels for the surprisingly low aggregate price of $50.00! ---- Eando Binder has crashed AMAZING again with "The Kissing Year". The only th You'll all know what this Amazing scoop and mystery is when the mag hits the stands this Tuesday. _____________________________________ Philip Nowlan, creator of BUCK ROGERS is writing a yarn to be submtited to ASTOUNDING. _____________________________________ ARGOSY's new stf repring magazine will hit the stands on July 19, it is much the same i format as ARGOSY except that there is no illustration on the cover, instead large letters announce forth the famous stories to be found inside, it is a well balanced cover tho. Some of the stories presented inside are illustrated by the same illustrations used when the yarns first appeared in print. Price 15 ¢ 128 pages. _____________________________________ As you know the next Weird Tales will cost only 15 ¢, this will also mean a cut in pages. 128 will be the new number of pages per issue. The quality of the magazine will be as high as before if not even more so. _____________________________________ NO FAN MAGAZINES ARRIVED THIS WEEK _____________________________________ A YEAR AGO THIS WEEK!
