FANTASY NEWS A COSMIC PUBLICATION JAMES V TAURASI editor SAM MOSKOWITZ -- MARIO RACIC jr associate editors JOHN GIUNTA -- art director Published every week by James V Taurasi, 137-07 32nd Avenue, Flushing, New York 3 issues 10¢ - 9 issues 30¢ Vol 3 - No 4 - Whole No 56 July 16 1939 THRILLING WONDER GIVES DINNER TO CONVENTION COMMITTEE AND OUT-OF-TOWNERS! Last Friday, July 7th, 1939, Thrilling Wonder Stories gave the Convention Committee, James V Taurasi, Sam Moskowitz, William S Sykora, & Mario Racic, jr; out-of-towners, Ackerman, Morojo, Mark Reinsberg, Bob Madle, Ross Rocklynne, Dale Hart, and others, Julius Schwartz of New York & Charles D Hornig, editor of Science Fiction, one swell dinner to celebrate the success of the WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION. Mort Weisinger, editor or THRILLING WONDER STORIES, represented it and Standard Publications at the dinner. The group met in front of Wonder's editorial office at 48th Street and from there proceeded to the restaurant at 47th Street near Broadway. The dinner was quite informal, talk and cat-calls being passed around constantly. It was really one of those get togethers that can happen only once in a hundred years. It will be quite some time till fans from such cities as Los Angeles, Chicago, Cincinnati, Philadelphia etc will ever get together again. It was actually the cream of the country's science fiction fans that got together to celebrate the huge success of the WORLD CONVENTION. An excellent time was had by all and the dinner itself was quite good. About the only person not enjoying the affair might have been the waitress who had a job on her hands taking around 16 different orders and making sure that each one went to the right party. After the dinner, the fans broke up, some going home, some to see the city. A number consisting of The Convention Committee, Morojo, Ackerman, Hart, Madle, Reinsberg and one or two others got together at the corner of 47th & Broadway. Here preliminary plans for the coming Chicago 1940 Convention and other lesser important items were talked over and discussed. Breaking up this bunch was the work of hours. Finally good-bys were exchanges with the out-of-towners who were leaving the next day and the Convention Committee boarded the 8th Ave Subway for the home of Sykora for discussion of the Conventions and plans of the future. The affair will long be remembered by all who attended.
