Purpose The purpose of the LASFS (also known as Shangri-LA) is to provide a meeting place where persons interested in science fiction and the general broad classification 'fantasy' may fraternize to pursue the pleasures of their hobby. To assure the enthusiast of a definite date and location where they may meet others of similar literacy likings to exchange ideas and opinions, receive and disseminate news and information pertaining to the field and its followers. In cooperation make possible publications permitting self-expression. And in all ways, enhance he members' enjoyment of science-fantasy and the weird in their various forms. IN REGARD TO OUR BACKGROUND After a year of preliminary preparations our Club was founded 6 February 1936. In the beginning meetings were held once a month; later became bi-weekly; as membership and interest increased, were held on a weekly basis; and now that our own club room has been established, the society is in almost perpetual session. Over 338 meetings have been held. OFFICIAL MEETINGS & LOCATION Official meetings are held every Thursday evening beginning at 8:30p at 637-1/2 S Bixel, near downtown. This address is easily reached by a "3", "D", "H", "R" or "S" car. We have a phone: MAdison 7038.
