THE PHANTAGRAPH FANZINE 3 Three stanzas of an unfinished poem written by Fred Pohl about 1937: A million fans put out their organs, Tried to sell them high and low; But the only ones to profit Sold supplies for mimeo. The fans built up their circulations, Did their best to make them stick; Still no one could show a profit Save the men of A.B. Dick. Several of the fans got presses From the Kelsey Company And they also bought equipment To the Company's great glee. (How little things change!) We wrote, a year later, a fourth stanza to the poem: They gave plenty time and money 'Nough to build and fill a mint. When they looked around for writings Theirs was all they had to print. News clipping from Page 3 of the City Edition of the N.Y. Times. April 30th. 1933. Story from Berlin by F. Birchall: Festivities began tonight with the celebration of a "witches' sabbath" on the Brocken in the Harz Mountains by members of the Hitler Youth Movement. The above paragraph was deleted from all later editions and stories.
