common sense tells me that my own security is absolutely dependent on the security of my neighbor. It is bad enough to lack moral principle, but to lack a sense of expediency is so tragic that it becomes almost comic. You don't have to be a Christian, an idealist, or a philanthropist, to understand this; you merely require a spoonful of brains.

Along the river road beyond the mill,
Early next Spring I must go back and see
If our old apple tree is blooming still;
It its calm beauty can bring back to me
Some semblance of the holy, poignant thrill
Of that hushed dawn; the childhood ecstasy
That gazed in wonderment; and drank its fill
Of burnished cloud and river's majesty.
