Take it Olon: As the freight pulled out of Sterling, I was lying on top the car across the gap from Martin and one of the bos. They were conversing in undertones so as not to draw any attention from the bulls. At the time I didn't know what they were talking about, but I learned later that the bo told Mart that he knew of a swell place up on front of the train and had asked us to come on up there. I climbed down into the well at that time and Martin told me about it. I decided to stick it out where I was for I knew that the closer we got to the front the dirtier it would get. I guess Mart made an attempt at telling me he.was going on up with the bos, at any rate I didn't understand him. I assumed he had climbed down into the well behind me and being interested in the various structures around there it was some time before I noticed he was gone, for standing back to back I couldn't see him leave. This caused no end of mental torture as I had promised his mother that I wouldn't let him out of my sight, and to suddenly find him gone really threw a scare into me that I didn't get over until I seen his pocket flashlight shining on me from atop the front car. I nodded to him and watched him climb down on the ladder opposite me. Much relieved I turned again to the scenery. Now I'll switch it back to Martin: On through the night we thundered, stopping for nothing. It had begun to cloud over now and only a few stars in the extreme west were faintly visible through the thin veil that thickened into dense low-hanging clouds in the east, When the clouds had first started to collect I had prayed fervently that
