SCIENCE FICTION FORWARD Page 3 contain articles with other points of our policy. Wecare, as is every new mag, in straitened circumstances as regards material suitable for publication, and we invite every reader of the S-FF to contribute. All articles will be judged according to our policy rather than just literary excellence, and a well-planned, thoughtful piece of work will have more chance of seeing mimeograph ink thank a Moskowitzish "fan" article. We are in deadly earnest about this thing, and expect all co-contributors to be likewise. And if you do not feel up to writing an article, write us a letter. A readers' department will be inaugurated in the next issue, and we not only want to know what you think of the magazine, but how our subject matter strikes you. We welcome argument, and we attach more importance to the subject matter in the FORWARD than to anything else. "PLUTOS" may have their five-colon mimeo jobs and "SCIENTI-SNAPSES" their "super-mimeoing", but the S-FF gives honest-to-goodness worth to itsreaders. Plans for future issues are pretty definite. We do not expect to have much more than 16 pages each issue, but weddo expect to have an issue ready every month without fail. Wecare depending in no small measure upon you, our reading public, both for funds to pay for, and material to fill, each issue. 10 issues will be put out per year, at a price of 10 [cents sign] per single copy, $1 per year. There will be no FORWARD issue during the months of July and August, expect upon special occasions. We would rather than you, when subscribing, would send along the whole dollar for a year, so we are making this money-back guarantee: all the money you do not receive value for, if any, will be positively returned. You can't lose, so send the whole buck. We'll appreciate it. This issue is distributed free of charge. All subscriptions sent in by those who got this mag for nothing will start with this first issue. SPECIAL TO PRO MAGS WHO REPRESENT FAN MAGS REVIEWED THEREIN A S BEING AVAILABLE FOR A 3 [cents sign] STAMP: The S-FF is not available for a 3 [cents sign] stamp for the simple reason that all of this first issue is gone. A copy cannot be had for any price. However, copies of Volume one, Number two are available at ten cents apiece. We find it impossible to give away our magazine, and still keep publishing it. The SCIENCE-FICTION FORWARD takes the greatest pleasure in announcing the formation of the INTELLECTUAL BROTHERHOOD OF PRO-SCIENTISTS by one of the Paterson's foremost fans, Ray Van Houten. This new organization, which we support with all our strength, will be a real asset in the fight against ANTI-SCIENCE. Unlike the FORWARD, the IBP will not limit its activity to the science-fiction fan field, but will meet ANTI-SCIENCE wherever it is to be found. We heartily advise all our readers to join at once, and have every confidence in Mr. Van Houten's ability to run a fair and square club that will really accomplish something. Although the IBP has not yet fully organized, the membership list is open to anyone with a firm belief in science and 10 [cents sign] in coin. Just send your name and address, enclosing the dime, to R. Van Houten, E6 Seeley St., Paterson, N.J. and you will be embarked upon a thrilling adventure. (continued on page 11.)
