18 Jan 47 Ember a weekly journal of news, views, and pro-vocative muse to interest a limited circle of scienti-fantasy enthusiasts, published by Donn Brazier, 1329 N. 33rd Sr., [town], S. Wisconsin. Price? 5c per copy: 4 pages. 13 January 1947 'World-Saver' Hamilton gets the Girl : Leigh Brackett Is Terran Bride During a telephone conversation between Ray Bradbury and Forrest Ackerman, author Bradbury reported that long-time bacjelor author Edward Hamilton, known throughout Fandom for his many stories in fantasy maga zines, recently married Leigh Brackett, young authoress whose stories have appeared in 'Planet' and 'Strange Stories'. She is also a movie writer. The news comes as a surprise to Fandom who had heard nothing despite engagement announcements ten weeks ago. The Hamiltons were married in Arcadia and are at present living in this suburb of Los Angeles. Ray Bradbury acted as best man. --Tigrina. ARKHAM HOUSE REPORT: August Derleth writes- "I went through Ember with interest , and some observations came almost spontaneously. 1) It should be made clear that the Kennedy Fantasy Review poll was perfectly obviously weighted with science-fictioneers; the outcome is all the evidence necessary. 2) Tigrina's otherwise satisfactory review indicates that she missed the point of some of Wakefield's stories. While she mentions one of the best stories as among her favorites, she also mentions one of the best as those which seemed 'pointless or anti-climatic'; and she omits all mention of two other first-raters, one of which comes in THE NIGHT SIDE, the other in the SLEEPING AND THE DEAD. T. would therefore not seem to be sufficiently 'in the know' to make a good reviewer. ....Nothing much new here, except that a new AH bulletin goes out in 5 days. Only 'news' it will carry, apart from contents of the new Wagenknecht anthology (THE FIRESIDE BOOK OF GHOST STORIES), is that AH editions in 1947 will be smaller. But the bulletin will carry a complete reference list of all books in print, coming, and contracted for, together with statements re the relative out-of-print possibilities of AH books. 43 copies of LOST WORLDS are left, for instance, and 137 of MARGINALIA." If you are not on Derlath's mailing list for th bulletin, write him at Sauk City, Wisc. Wagenknecht's anothology is about to go into page proof; book ready in early spring from Bobbs-Merrill Co. 650 pages and uniform in design with previously published "Fireside Book of Christmas Stories". This may be the start of a long series of Fireside books. Designed and illustrated by Warren Chappell and to see at $3.50. --Tigrina
