4 CFS Review October 16, 1940 Dear Fanmag Editors: As you probably already know, the 1941 World's Science Fiction Convention was voted, by a unanimous vote, to Denver. A situation very similar to the 1939 muddle, as to what group would sponsor the Convention, seems to be developing. Don't know that you had heard or not, since it isn't too well known, as yet, that the New Fandom group are sponsoring a convention of their own, to be held in Newark, which, if I'm not terribly mistaken, is going to cause a great deal more friction in the realm of science fiction fandom. Newark had no one at the Chicago convention to bid for the affair for 1941. Since they had no one there to represent the city, and Newark was not mentioned in any way, what is the reason for the Newark group in staging a convention of their own? I can see only one reason knowing, as they must have, that the Convention would be held somewhere, the Newark Convention is being held in opposition to the legal Convention, which in this case, is Denver, which city was voted the Convention, by the legal Convention of 1940. There can be no doubt of Denver's right to stage the 1941 Convention, in view of the above, and would like to know which of the two Conventions you will recognize as the legal sponsor. There is no need for two Conventions, since, working in opposition to each other, they would tend to lessen the chances of a successful Convention being held at all. It is only fair that you make a decision, in favor of one or the other, and support that one, to the extent of excluding any mention of the other in your publication/s. Abide by your decision p̲u̲b̲l̲i̲c̲l̲y̲ by stating your stand in your magazine/s. Very sincerely yours, Olon F. Wiggins, Director
