influence upon the entire world. (Included also are all universes, everything.) I was brought up in a very Catholic home. Mother and Dad are both French Canadian and very religious. It was naturally a blow to them when I served not the God in which they so thoroughly believed. I found another, however, One Who is so much more satisfactory in that nothing about Him is contradictory as is so often the fact in established religions. My God is the director of this Man about whom we speak and Who has left us the path that we may follow it at our will. You so very well express that in THE TIME-BINDER. Indeed, I have been fortunate, E.E. It was my great fortune to have in high school a teacher of His Story who taught it in its proper aspect. She taught history as a single occurence of Man. We learned that every change in government brought greater advance to more people. From caves to villages to baronial estates to cities to metropoli, and finally from them to the future hoped-for world state. She gave us the truth about some of the so-called great leaders of the country and was reprimanded by the school board for it. She was a believer in the ultimate Brotherhood of Man and suffered for the cause. Do you wonder that I have so sweet a memory of her? She was my ideal in High, and I could not have made a better choice. Because of her teachings I have a clear view of History and shall see to it that my son has the chance to see it that way as well. But here is the great tragedy. Miss Chase died one year after our class graduated. Her great work was interrupted just when she was vitally neeeded. She was a pioneer in the proper teaching of history. ((But "she" has not died, Doris. You and others of her students will carry on her work, whether in school or home. It is only her body that has died -- not her usefulness and her spiritual good.—EEE)) I also agree with you that "people are the grandest people" for they are if you give them the chance. And you know, E.E., here is a wonderful thing. If you spend your time looking for the Best in people, little by little you will see only the best in them. And ... if you tell them of the things you see in them little by little those BEST traits which we have commented upon will come to the fore and the person's whole personality can often be changed for the better by this method. ((True!—EEE)). Do you realize what power this gives to us who are aware of it? It is one of the greatest forces for good in the whole world and it is sound psychology too. ((Absolutely sound.—EEE)). You can experiment with a child to prove my point. Tell a child consistently for one week that he is bad and by the end of the week that child will believe it and will behave accordingly. Then—while he is in this mood of naughtiness and feeling that he is BAD, turn the tables and begin calling attention to his good and wholesome points, tell him more and more for the next week that he is GOOD and you will find yourself with a wonderful child on your hands. He is good because he has been told that he is and thus feels that he is. 13
