WALTER DUNKELBERGER THE TIME-BINDER #2 arrived yesterday -- finally I have something that I can really show people concerning fans and fan publications that is about something they can understand. I'm getting rather tired of being called "slightly queer" or "he's different than we are". ( (I've had those reactions to THE TIME-BINDER, too, Walt.---EEE) ). I won't go into the headings, etc., they are beautiful, appropriate and have been covered by other fen. What I'd like to dwell on is the idea behind it all -- behind this "privilege of sharing your mind and thoughts" for a few pages. It makes heavy slow reading, true, but then the analyzation of a personality in such a short period of time would be miraculous -- if it could be accomplished. You have placed yourself on paper for all of us to see. If we don't like it we can tell you soo -- if not, we'll keep silent. Unfortunately you are unable to determine whether the silent votes are for you or because they just don't care. The search for "truth" as I like to call it is a wonderful game. It makes life worthwhile -- it gives life a "purpose". I have indulged in it for some 15 years now and, frankly, up until now haven't liked what I saw. Many of your ideas and mine are similar, many of your ideas I haven't yet received my "answers" for -- (and how difficult it is for us to accept the answer when found by someone else, we just can't believe that it would fit in our case, too). My search has led me about two-thirds of the way around the world (glimpsed other people's religions and lives), in and out of the pulpit (possibly this is where I learned to dislike professional religionists), and I have ended (so far) with a feeling that there is a God but that we are mere pawns in his game of life (true we have a certain amount of choice but environment frequently overrules our decisions); and that I can get the most good out of life by following these simple rules -- "Be good and do good", and "Joy through service". Fundamentally they are the same, but with all the shadings possible to various words it is best to state it both ways. ( (Isn't it possible also to state them as I did by quoting the Golden Rule and the "Inasmuch" parable? I feel they are all the same.--EEE) ). I, too, have reached a conclusion that our economics, etc., are ruled by a group -- "Karpin, the Jew" printed in an early F.F.M. is a fictionalization of what I mean. A fictionalization of my attitude about God can be foudn in a couple of ASTONISHINGs -- Ross Rocklynne wrote a series of two -- one is Daughter of Darkness, the other Abyss of Darkness, that express my ideas. In my search for a FAPAzine you have probably solved the problem for me. In my search for truth I have (at times) kept notes -- these notes might make interesting reading -- yours did. I believe I'll try it. Some of my searches are almost fictional in their unreality -- such is my "behind the scenes " views of Oriental temple worship -- which really gave me grounds 16
