Intrigue In Space by Kenneth Mackley With a roar like a million Niagaras, the great rocket fleet of Rogeresia rose up from the surface of that alien planet and was instantly lost to sight in the depths of space. Traveling under it's double-inertia-minus-gravity drive, before an eyelash could be blinked the fleet was past three universes. Ten thousand ships, and in the largest, most glorious of them, all, Captain Gumball Gunnysack. Gumball paced up and down the narrow confines of his room. At a time when he should be happy, he thought, with his heroic navy at his back, he wasn't able to remember where he was going! Oh, if only they hadn't subjected him to that memory loser back there on Buckus, the greatest planet of Rogeresia, he might know wher he was going....but suddenly there was a crawling sensation on his chest, just below his neck. Was it the thing he was waiting for---were his orders coming in? He looked at the combination ray gun, television set, radio transmitter, and jar of Vicks. Then he swatted the mosquito that was setting up operations below his third rib. What was a mosquito doing in a space ship? Well, if no orders were coming in, he must give them. He went to the communicator set in the wall and barked his orders! "Zut!" the Rogeresian was remarkably compact and that single syllable, freely translated, meant: "Where are you taking me? And where did I say to go? Are we going there? How long has it been since I was subjected to the memory loser? Unfortunately, he noticed just then that it was not a communicatr at all, but a window, and that the round face of a Rogeresian was peering in at him. Oh, well the creature must have heard him. Gumball awaited the answer. The creature smiled and left, shortly to return with a machine--- and it looked---yes it was----- a memory finder. Something in the back of his mind told him that his would mean the end of all his glory--- and yet--- The plate flashed--- and suddenly he knew. Phooey! Gunnysack walked out of the three dimensional, be an actor-yourself theatre, got a drink, and hopped the next ship for Sirius.
