25 THOSE BLASTED ADVERTS! by Ted Carnell A dynamic story of the last Neanderthal Man being kidded into extinction is nearing its close. The old chap looks feebly at a bunch of youngsters hell-bent upon exterminating him, and sighs for the days when he was young and gay. . . , (turn page) "I'll make a man of you," says Strength-Through-Joy Charlie. The beautiful, blond heroine, just revived from a 3000 year sleep in suspended animation, is confronted by a wild-eyed, ranting, panting villain, out to conquer the Universe. He decides to start by conquering her. Slowly she backs into the only corner, there is nothing between her and a fate worse than death. . . (turn page). . . "You can be the center of every party. Play your way to success on the one-stringed bozonka in ten minutes." Stranded a million miles off Cape Cod, a battered hulk of a space- ship drifts away from the Universe. The starving crew are reduced to eating nuts and bolts and bars of iron... (turn page) . . . "Are your teeth troubling you, or falling out ? Try a package of Gripflex Dental Fastener and keep your dinner on your palate." OVERFLOW To nominate the story "Dr. Destiny Master Of The Dead" by Robert Moore Williams, which appeared in the June '40 FANTASTIC ADVENTURES, as the rottenest story of the year—let's make it the last two years. Then you missed some fine ART and HUMOR and "Beard Mutterings*' #1. "Beard Mutterings", is a WOW! When you run across anything in your perusal of the HAM and PRO mags, that you think should be included in the "Bright Stuff By Children" column, don't fail to send it in. . Argosy, which maintains its policy of long standing of being a general fiction mag, certainly has first choice in the fantasy it selects. Would that the fiction in the long list of mags which specialize in fantasy, was the same high quality as that carried by it. "Laboratory Skeleton" by ed V.E.M. which appeared in the August, STARDUST, was inspired by "Oscar" the skeleton which hangs placidly in his case, with a cigar butt in his jaws, in the laboratory at the Lit, Sci, & Hobbies Club-house.
