WE offer this as an afterthought: those members of fandom who have been reading AMAZING STORIES for a length of time will realize that this not the first time that this magazine has been accused of conducting a hoax. We well remember the story, "Letter to the Editor", which was also alleged to be true. Why are the stories in the Lemuria series presented as truth rather than fasinating (sic) fiction, which in reality they really are?? We offer also, this thought, why doesn't Mr. Palmer come out with more clarified statements about the series, than with the thinly veiled remarks he hsa (sic) made. If he knows the world is in danger, as he claimed, why in the name of all this planet doesn't he make this known??? We admit that the letter offer no real, concrete proof, but it does show that Mr. Palmer is not doing all that he says he is. This letter was not a prank, but a carefully planned letter --- in order that it might be printed--worded simply so that anyone reading the letter, showing interest; would recognise it as what it was. Mr Palmer may state that he printed the letter knowing its portent to frustrate the writers. We believe this is a weak excuse for lack of proper vigilance, or just plan, old-fashioned bull to cover lies in the past about the Lemuria letters. Mr Palmer states that the tricks of adolescents are really noticed before they are in print. Well I shouldn't wonder, who couldn't see through the tricks of the 9-year-olds who make the reading majority of AMAZING? But at one thing Mr Palmer has made progress at, he had managed to get all the fanatics of the world together and the (sic) write letters to his mag. We repeat, this letter was not a prank, but a carefully planned attack at the Lemuria Menace. And to print such things as talking turtles. Tsk! Tsk! We would like Mr Palmer to answer this mess of charges we have brought against him, and not in his mags either! Yes, the stories contain some amazing facts, but then, doesn't anything that is in the group with science-fiction possess the self-same tendencies? Also, we would like to find out what the rest of the fandom thinks about this matter. "Chris" "Dipso"
