In the first portfolio U preferd the artists' offerings in the order: Bronson, Erman, knight, Delder, Bjenkins. Hoffman's gagirl universally was praised, was considered worthy of a cover by Widner. Art, however, objected to the whole shebang, claiming that from the first bangd-she to the Erman atrocity they werent worth the powder to puff them up. Al Ashley differd in these words: "Yum! In fact, not bad.The one by Jack Erman struck me as the most appropriate of the lot, Not intimating that they were, some of the rest easily could have been traced from photographs or some such. They were just ordinary, garden variety nudes. Erman's could have been improved in my opinion by eliminating the broken lines. But on the whole, while obviously being a nude woman, it had the 'fantasy' touch. Maybe, one of these days I'll send you a fantasy nude drawing." Al hasnt got round to it yet but his wife did! See the Medusa, #4. Note Al "obviously" recongized the Erman offering as "a nude woman". For the author of the following did not. We refrain from publishing her name, but she served relations--but outragedly and finally!--with the publisher, particularly over his own picture, stating: "Some of the pictures werent bad, the 1st 2 (Delder, Bjenkins), but when i got to yours, Forrest, I was very disgusted. In fact I think your imagination and everything else is indecent and your drawing is an insult to the name 'woman.' Where you ever could have gotten the idea that a woman looked like that, I can't imagine, but it is absolutely repulsive to me. "since when are nude girls 'Sciencefiction' anyway?
