7 CINVENTIONALITIES On the 3rd, 4th and 5th of September the Cincinnati Fantasy Group organized the 7th World Science Fiction Convention at the Hotel Metropole in Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. USA. This convention, generally known as the Cinvention was the latest of a line of annual conventions. All these conventions have been held on the North American continent and all except one have been held in the United States. This one was held in 1948 at Toronto, Canada and was called the Torcon. The Cinvention as a convention was a great success. There was a program of speakers, an auction of books, magazines and illustrations donated by the magazine publishers. There was some activities of international interest at the gathering. Ted Carnell made the trip from London, England to be present. He addressed the gathering a number of times and told of the yearly convention that the English fans hold in London. He mentioned also that any fans from America would be very welcome if they could make the trip to England to attend these gatherings. Although no one present made the suggestion, it would not be a bad idea to look into the possibility of holding a World Science Fiction Convention in England. Among the messages received from absentee fans were greetings from Ken Slater, an English fan, publisher of Operation Fantast, resident in Germany and Vol Molesworth of Sydney, Australia. The Canadian delegation to the Cinvention consisted of Ned McKeown and John Millard, publishers of Canadian Fandom; Alastair Cameron from the Chalk River atom plant and Lyell Crane, an Australian, resident in Toronto. Financially the convention was just as successful as it was in every other direction. The proceeds were divided up as follows:- $150 was to be spent on magazine subscriptions to be sent to fans in England, $150 was to be spent in a similar way for Australian fans, $150 was to be credited to the next year's convention which will be held in Portland, Oregon, USA and the remainder which amounted to about $300 was to be donated to the Cincinnati group to buy them printing equipment for their club. The Cinvention was a very successful convention and the Cincinnati group deserve great credit for the way in which they carried out the work connected with entertaining well over 200 people. _____________________ UK STF Ken Slater reports that the Gaywood Press, Ltd. (London, England) are putting out a series of twelve science fiction stories. First one is THE TREMBLING WORLD by Astron Del Martia, reputed to be a nom-de-plume of an stf specialist. This one is already available, 1/6 plus 2d postage. Next scheduled title is DAWN OF DARKNESS, same author.
