aware of the fact--and worried stiff that (a) the psychologists will not succeed before it is too late and (b) the findings of the psychologists will be misapplied or distorted to meet the needs of those who lust for power. The Goebbels of 1960 (1950?) is likely to be an expert on behaviorist psychology. Milty, oddly enough, fails utterly to mention Wylie's remarks on today's inadequate education. The proper publishing credit for [title underlined] Night Unto Night should be: New York, Toronot: Farrar and Rinehart, 1942 xii plus 372 pp. The LASFS frequently recalls with glee my absolute and unswerving preoccupation with not one, but three years of [title underlined] Astounding whenever the mood seized me--no matter in what position I found myself. [line break] ---oo0oo--- AD INTERIM Miracles can happen; Wilimczyk has beaten me to the honor of publishing the first Hawaiian fanzine. Judging by this issue he must be the Army equivalent of a yeoman [?] But I may still launch the first Hawaiian subzine. [line break] ---oo0oo--- READER AND COLLECTOR Better men than I (especially my favorite fan fugler, Francis T. Laney) ((well!)) will honor the Butman essay as it deserves to be honored. Koenig's favorite fictional detecitve [sic] is almost certainly Vincent Starret's Jimme Lavender. See "The Case of the Two Flutes" in Starrett's [title underlined] Case Book of Jimmie Lavender. [line break] ---oo0oo--- FAN-TODS W6LIP was through here recently; he suggests that those who are communications-receiver minded buy a Hammarlund HQ129X, a good audio amplifier, and phono gear, a good speaker--all of which come up to the price of good equipment like the Hallicrafters SX28. He says that the HQ has poor quality but this can be bypassed by connecting the output of the 2nd detector directly to the external audio-amplifier. Me, I'm sticking to my original decision and adding the rest of the equipment as time goes along. Do not let anyone sell you a National NC240--the dial mechanism is decidedly uncooperative, among other things. Are the r. f. and i. f. stages of the average communications receiver lacking in distortion to the extent that that i. f. output might be used to furnish the radio-frequency energy to check modulation with a CRO? Although I doubt it very much, I think it would be fun to try it out. ((Whew!))
