Judicious cutting of the letters could have produced better results; much of the little [illegible] insignificant matter is interesting only in what it proves others have [illegible] difficulties in getting letters answered and so forth as do I. One point might be mentioned, about Don's complaint that some of the prozines fail to [illegible] on the local newsstands. Chris Vulrain, who's in the air corps tells me the [illegible] a rather hysterical scramble for pulp magazines in his location by the enlisted man, as soon as new editions appear. Might be that Don's just too slow [illegible] will happen to Phanny now that Lynn is drafted? [Illegible] vol. 1, no. 1. A very noble effort. The cover gives a [illegible] cartoons is about the only way the fanzines actually [illegible] material both use. Of course, only Palmer's magazines use cartoons and [illegible] must always be very carefully made for that; but [illegible] rarely [illegible] a grin, while lots of those on the fanzines [and particularly demon's] are really funny. '' All the material except the the cartoon, letters, and quotations is [illegible] by Harry, and he shouldn't hide behind all those elaborate pseudonyms and run the risk of not getting credit for something especially good. [Illegible] I go the rest one better. They write Poems to Helen; I [illegible] music [illegible] Helen. Ask Milty about its merits. '' I intend to [illegible] toward trying to discover a new rating scale for the fanzine material, much less trying to figure out a way to rate complete products. '' I respect that [illegible] is getting reprint rights from Cummings, not the [illegible] of the copyright on the old Science & Inventions, or [illegible] be reprinting other stuff by now. Right? '' Most of the material good; [illegible] of Postal [illegible] to include excerpts from letters is recommended. The Reader and Collector: vol. 2, no. 4. As always, very interesting. Is the printing paper shortage going to force mimeoing on both sides? Patriotic as I am, I shall think this is one instance where waste of one side of the paper is justified by the swell appearance it makes in the present style. It is to be feared, though, that BGE will never hear the last of the heckling for [illegible]. "Cooperation At It's Best." '' I've been toying with the idea of starting a fine edition of books myself. Yessir. I may start buying Triangle editions instead of those cheap Pocket Books; what's 14c additional, anyway? After at least three minutes' research the [illegible] was found [illegible] on page 16 of vol. 1 of his Autobiography. He didn't [illegible] it -- merely copied it from a newspaper because he liked it. I defy [illegible] laws by copying in full: "A Dresden paper, the Weidmann, which thinks that there are kangaroos [illegible] in South Africa, says the Hottentots [illegible] put them in cages [illegible] provided with covers (lattengitter) to prevent them from the rain. The cages are therefore called lattengitter[illegible], and the imprisoned kangaroo [illegible]. One day as [illegible] in [illegible] the [illegible] and starving children [illegible] This woman, in the [illegible] is [illegible] and her [illegible] The [illegible] was confined in a kangaroo's cage -- [illegible] -- [illegible] a few days later [illegible], but fortunately he was [illegible], who presented himself at the major's office with beaming face.
