MFS Bulletin Volume Three-- Feb 22/43--Whole Number 20 --Number Eight BOOK NOTES: According to [[underline]] Book Review Digest [[/underline]], Anthony Boucher, author of "Barrier", and "Rocket to the Morgue" under the name of H H Holmes, is really a gent by the name of William Anthony Parker White. The New Yorker for February 13/43 carries an article on fandom and fantasy by Angelica Gibbs. The author really knows his (or her, if it isn't a pen name) fantasy. It runs to better than three 3-columned pages. It's degratory, as might be expected. ***** I was in Chicago over the week-end. Learned that Bob Camden is going into the Navy. Thursday, Feb 18th was probably the date. Visited Walt Liebscher in Joliet--at St Joseph's hospital. I'm now a member of the Windy City Wampires. Was initiated, and made Journey-man Procurator. --Dalvan Coger Art Saha, 2828 1/2 3rd ave E--Hibbing, Minnesota, is trying to subscribe to all the fanzines now, you editors, so why don't you send him a sample copy or subscription rates? Art would appreciate it a lot, and makes a fine correspondent. --jlg Manse Brackney definitely accepted by the army. He reported Saturday evening, Feb 13th, and then every morning for awhile until he was OKed. Manse has rather poor eyes, and expected to be rejected, but he goes now Monday, Feb 22nd. Most of his fan activities were cleared up before he left, but any mail can reach him c/o his home address (152 Arthur ave SE--Mpls, Minn), or c/o my address. --jlf BARRACK BUNK Hiss of the week. Presenting Pvt Harley Hornig, the Great Kibitzer. This character is as welcome as a blister on your MIddleside (ask Aunt Fanny for the meaning of that one). He should be broke by now, seeing as how he's always putting in his 2 [[cents sign]] worth. In other words, Harley's always Hornig in! Pvt Nova Ashley, coke-salesman fro Crockett, leaves 2 kids and a red-headed wife behind. The name "Nova" means "new". "And it's all very Nova to me!" he punned. "But say, what was that concoction they served us the other day? That orange drink? It tasted like a sick Zombie! Pvt Stan Coblentz comes from a hilly region; Mills Valley, Cal, up around Mt Tamalpais. Quite a come-down, but literally, to the Flats. Pvt Coblentz is a poet. To show it, he offered the following on the spur of the moment: Processing! Those magic hours, seventy-two, That make a soldier out of you. At least, a soldier's simulacrum, And gives a taste of Things to Come! --Barrack Bunk by Pfc 4e, courtesy The Fort MacArthur Bulletin.
