PARADOX 17 says: Bob Tucker, P.O. Box 260, Bloomington, Ill.: Thanks for the copy of the first issue of Paradox. I haven't seen a large sized hectograph magazine in a great while, and it's strangeness was refreshing. I liked best Avery's article on the problems of time-travel; and 2nd best, "The Voyage of prof. Schmertz", followed by Raym Washington's piece. The fiction I didn't care for at all; because altho time-traveling stories are my favorite, they have to be done well to be enjoyed, and this one was far from being well done. The drawing on page 2, and those on page 8 were liked. The front cover left me unimpressed. I am moved to ask--is the signature written in your natural pen hand? It is almost too-perfect. (Shux--twarn't nuthin') To wind up, I'll be looking forward to the next issue. I suggest, that if you can obtain enough material of the type, you use nothing but time-travel and its various allied fields. There are too many "general" fanzines glutting the field now. I think one specializing in one branch or field would be appreciated. now we are threatened by: Harry Schmarje, 318 Steward Rd., Muscatine, Iowa Paradox is quite a mag. I meant to write you sooner, but you know how it is. I have no time. Anyway, for a hectoed mag, it is "A-l". The Time Travel idea for a theme is a good one. Ah, so you intend mimeoing No. 2, eh? Good for you! Raym's article is a good one. Which is very unusual--considering that guy. Even thought-provoking. DIOS! I didn't think Raym had it in him. He's been holding out on me--and the rest of Fandom. That first illustration by Frank is kind of screwy. But, I can grasp its meaning. Sensations of a TT is right! But, absurd. I repeat: this is a Washington I never knew before. You brought something new out in his personality. He seldom mentions TT to me, although he and Mort Hordler used to almost come to blows over TT (Tsk, tsk, watch those infinitives, Harry) One thing about Paradox, though, you must enlarge it. Its size fairly screams, "Five cents, pliz!" I insist on 25 pages next ish. And pliz forget Time Travel for a while. Try Space Travel. Yeh. We want some short departments. Maybe I'll write you something (be glad to have you). Sumpin short and to the point--maybe even gruesome, although that's a little out of my line. What? Nothing by R.M. Farley in Paradox? You're slipping, Frank. Sorry about farley, harry. he completely slipped our mind. more pages this time, tho'. mebbe more in the next issue.--ed.
