BADGES FOR EVERYONE In New York in '39, Chicago in '40, and Denver in '41 the poor Stfans only knew each other by personal acquaintanceship or that vague, wacky look exhibited on the delegates faces. Some pitiful cases may never have recognized anyone in the imagi-nation except in the convention hall. The PACIFICON commiittee is going to see to it that no such situation occurs in Shangri-La in '42. At the Chicon, Erle Korshak had the idea of a badge for conventionites, and the Galactic Roamers at the Denvention had their own badges as representing that group. The LA boys and gals made up their minds that we'd have one here next year. A beautiful blue and gold badge will be given (gratis) to every person who signs the register at the Convention. On the top of it is lithographed a panoramic view of Southern California. It is a sort of mural, with Los Angeles County written across the bottom. In the center will be printed 4th World Science Fiction Convention Society, Hollywood, California, and the dates of the convention. This is all on a slip of paper behind a glassine front. The paper is removable so that the wearer can put his signature on it. The badge is aluminum (some that did not get picked up in the drive), with a safety pin clasp in the back. The drawing above is the actual size, and we are not kidding. Here is a souvenir you will not want to miss. There is absolutely no way for you to obtain one without coming to the Pacificon, and you know how we feel about that. FRANKLYN BRADY HOLLYCON IN '42? At the Denvention the all important decision was made that the 1942 Convention was going to be held in Los Angeles. Well, it's not going to be held there at all but in HOLLYWOOD--glamour town at the USA. Now do you know why we are so enthusiastic over our little convention? Seriously, Hollywood is technically only a part of Los Angeles but what a part! The Hollywood and Los Angeles business districts are just about all other important sections around here. Strange as it may seem though Hollywood is a city, Beverly Hills is one as is also Culver City. The former is the home of 20th Century Fox and the latter that of MGM. Paramount and RKO are really in Hollywood, but Warner Bros. and Universal are north of Hollywood in what is known as the San Fernando Valley. Four large beaches -- Venice, Long Beach, Ocean Park, and Santa Monica -- can provide plenty of extra entertainmnt for conventionites.. And WE HAVE OUR CHOICE OF ANY HOTEL IN HOLLYWOOD FOR THE CONVENTION! Did the Nycon, Chicon or Denvention ever have a chance like this? No, positively! The entertainment capital of the world is right here now, and local fans-- will see to it that the convention delegates see everything to every taste. There will be special events just for the Pacificon, but some are going to be surprises, and others will be described n future issues of the News. There is plenty to see and plenty to do, in Shangri-La in '42! FRANKLYN B.
