Society Notes BEARD TAKES BRIDE "Colonial Room", Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles, 15 August 1947 (Exclusive to Tympany) -- Gus (Facial Foliage) Willmorth, creator of Fantasy Advertiser, shed his bachelorhood last night, but not his beard, when he wed Eugenie Reid. Nieson Himmel was best man. Fans attending the ceremony included E. Everett and Jonne Evans, Walt Daugherty, Dale Hart, Oliver King Smith, Alva Rogers, Joseph Selinger, Aline Beeson and FJAckerman. Daughtery and Jonne Evans "kidnapped" the bride for a half hour after the reception; the groom, however, unperturbed, returned with a carful of fans to the LASFS clubroom, where the 403rd meeting was found to be in session. Congratulations and/or condolences were extended the Director, Willmorth, on having taken a Dictator. -- CLAIRE VOYANT. THE FANTASY CIRCLE. August W. Derleth, well-known fantasy writer and head of Arkham House, will make his first appearance before a science fiction club on Sunday, September 7, 1947, when he speaks at the meeting of the Eastern Science Fiction Association of Newark, N. J. (Gerry de la Ree) . . . . John Taine has written "The History of the Cosmic Geoids". He calls it his best. (Ackerman Authors Agency) . . . . A new book by Erle Cox, author of Out of the Silence, has just been published. It is The Missing Angel, characterized as "excellent Unknown style fantasy." (Ackerman) . . . . Repeat Performance, which has just been filmed, is also available as a book. It is an excellent fantasy. The author's name is O'Farrell. (Laurel Lee Donne) . . . Lt. Robert Heinlein (USN, ret.), co-authored , with Caleb Lanning, an article on "rocket-to-the-moon" possibilities which appears in the August 30th Collier's magazine. (Raymond) . . .. September Coronet contains an item of interest called "Can the Mind Pierce Tme and Space?", by Henry Lee. Several interesting psychic experiences are recorded. (Byrne) . . . . It is Greener Than You Think is a new novel by Ward Moore, which is about a door-to-door salesman who, applying a new formula for increasing the growth of plants to a lawn of dead grass, starts mankind's war with the grass. Cartoonists Howard Sparber and Raymond Abrashkin (who collaborate on the "Timmy" feature in Collier's), are avid readers of science-fiction, according to the August Salute magazine, which has an article about them.
