FROM "FROM THE DUAL CONTROLS" IN "THE SOUTHERN STAR" VOLUME I NO. 2 "We aren't promising anything special in the way of mimeographing, except that we'll do our dangest on it, and will doubtless have a fairly legible magazine by our first issue." By our first issue? That's a weird statement to make in the second issue, isn't it? What-the-hell! Have you really solved the problem of time travel, Mr. Gilbert? Do I still gripe you, Joe? FROM "THE FAPA FAN" APRIL, 1941 "THE READER AND COLLECTOR----That sibilation in 'Stirring' caught us cold, though And we thought we had been watching against that." My word!! Don't tell me, Don, that my anti-hissing campaign is having some effect in the pro field. Hot Ziggetty!! Maybe I'm hot stuff. FROM "FIRE-POWER" BY GOTTESMAN IN "COSMIC STORIES" JULY, 1941 "Bartok" hissed Voss------" Waddya mean, Editor Wollheim-- "we had been watching against that"? Guess you've confined your watching (?) to Stirring, eh what? That one was too easy. I'm "two up" on you, Don. FROM "THE ROCKET (CENSORED)" JUNE, 1941 A foot note. "as everyone already knows, airscrew is the English term for propellow. I prefere to use it, since it is a more accurate discription--Ed." To the list of things everyone already knows, Mr. Editor, I'd like to add-- and "e" instead of "o" in propeller; and an "e" instead of "i" in description. And, what's the idea of slipping an extra "e" in prefer? Going high hat on us? FROM "DOC SAVAGE CLUB" JUNE, 1941 "There are hazy records of waterspouts a mile high and reaching a height of a mile." Scout Perdue reported on that one. Talk about accuracy. On the other hand, think of the mess we'd be in if that mile-high spout hadn't reached a mile into the air. All the s.f. hounds would be looking for a piece of it in the 4th dimension.
