France March 3, 45 Dearest Evelyn, If it were possible for you to see me in my present condition you wouldn't believe your eyes. I'm living under ground and I'm not kidding. We built a new dugout and I'm living in the results. It isn't bad. The inside is about twelve foot square and four foot high. We have hay for a floor. We made a stove out of an old steel barrel. Its surprising to see how well it all worked out. We have dirt piled all over the thing for protection and warmth. Right now I have a flash light hung from the ceiling for a light. (Over)
