"Sun. eve." July 30, 1944 Dear Evelyn, You sort of surprised me by writing me again so soon. It was swell though and I was darned glad to hear from you. Don't worry too much if I don't get your letters answered right away, but I'll be trying just the same. Yes, I'm back in the army routine and I'm getting to hate it more every day. Maybe the furlough ruined me for I've been sore at the army ever since I've been back. I'll get over it though, I hope. So you are nearly twenty years old. Congratulations and all that
