Aug 11, 1944 Dear Evelyn, There is the old saying better late than never so here goes with a few lines. Lord but I've been busy lately. I'll get to that later. Got myself a new watch now all I have to do is keep someone from stealing it to. The folks are going to Texas about Aug 17 to see Ken for awhile. Sure would like to be going along. You know, I wrote Joan before I went home on furlough and I never did hear from her. Are you sure she is still alive? The rumors are flying thick and fast about when we will be leaving. I'm almost sure it will be soon. At least I'm hoping so. I got my hair butched last Wed. I really mean butched for none of it is more than 3/8 of an inch long. Looks sort of funny, but it feels better in this heat.
