Sept 1, 1944 Dear Evelyn, I'm staying in this morning to rest up for a problem tonight. I had some extra duty so they let me have the morning off. Honest, I'm not kidding. I'll start off by covering the news of the week. Monday we went out and came back Tues evening. There isn't much use going into detail about what I was doing there for I'm sure you aren't interested that much. Its hard to write someone who isn't in the army and tell them what you are doing. Well anyway, we got to sleep Tues night. Here is where the extra work comes in. Another company needed a mortarman to go on a two day problem so guess who they got. Yep, I went with K Co. Wed. and got back Thurs evening. It was a little different than some for it rained on us to help matters. The problem was an attack and we really used all sorts of real ammunition. We had artillery, mortars rifles, cannon etc. We really blew h---
