Sept 8, 1944 Dear Evelyn, I'm a bad boy this morning Evelyn. Here I am writing letters when I should be out working. I went to see the dentist this morning because of a swollen jaw, but it only took a minute so I sneaked away to goldbrick the rest of the forenoon. Nothing wrong with my tooth so I still have all my teeth plus some spare time to write a couple letters. Nice huh? I haven't done much out of the ordinary the past several days. True, I've spent more time in camp, which is unusual for this bunch. We did spend a few nights out but they weren't bad. One night, two of my buddies and I sneaked off about 10:00 at night and took a swim in a nearby stream. It would have been tough had we been caught, but there wasn't much of a risk to it. Did feel good to. The folks got home a week ago yesterday and from there letters they must have had a wonderful time.
