Sept 13, 1944 Dear Evelyn, Looks as if I'd better write fast as you are two letters ahead of me already. Things have let up around here the past week and a half so its almost like living now. All our officers and non-coms are home on leave so its a bit of a picnic. I don't know if I wrote you since everything started looking like a boat ride or not. At any rate, things are looking more like it every day. Last night they asked us if we wanted to make out a class "E" allotment. Those are the kind used when a fellows goes over seas. I'm getting anxious to know what really is going to happen. Regardless, it will get us out of Alabama. Evelyn, thats a date about the sweater. Make a bright red one so they can see me coming, especially in a jungle.
