Sept 23, 1944 Dearest Evelyn, This is being written under somewhat unusual conditions, as I've been drinking PX beer for a while. Honest, I don't do it very often, but once in awhile I let myself go and maybe I get one too many. My head is really whirling in big circles. this wouldn't do to get out you know. Whenever I get this way I always want to write you for some reason. Maybe its because I think you will understand and maybe its because I think alot of you. Honestly. I got back las evening from a week in the field and believe me, it was plenty rough. I still don't like working myself to death by day and no sleep at night. I got your letter with the picture
