I enjoyed the letter from Mrs. [Addy?], very much, and I'll enclose it right back to you. You didn't say that you wanted me to, but I'm taking it for granted, that you do. This is a stinky, rainy day today, and I'm hoping I don't get drowned in my tent tonight. I hate it when it rains out in the field. Your things get dirty enough lying on the ground, but it makes it worse when it rains. By the way, I'm glad you didn't buy me a sewing kit before now. (The army calls it a "housewife.") Mine has turned up. It was found by a soldier in another battalion, and finally found it's way back to me. Was darn glad to see it. So now you wont have to get one for me. Will say so long for now, Mom. Don't ever think that I don't want you to write to me. All my love---Jack [Row of X's]
