We have a new Battalion Commander, a Colonel Allen (Lt. Colonel), and I am temporarily his driver. They are doing away with regiment altogether, and each battalion will be a unit in itself. We're moving from our barracks to-morrow, to another set of them, about 3 blocks away. So I'll have all my stuff to pack tonight. 25 of the officers in the regiment are leaving for over-seas duty, so thats been a contributing factor to the uproar. A lot of our fellows are being transferred to different outfits, among them Sanders, the boy from Howell. The ones that are going are strictly unsatisfactory in our outfit. It's rained steady here for the last 2 days, but it doesn't really get started until late fall. They also tell me that we might see a little snow here this winter. I sure hope so. I missed that at Benning last year. This seems like an awful short letter but my time is awfully limited just now, so I guess it'll have to be "so long" till next time. All my love, Mom. Your ever-loving son---Jack [Space in last 3 lines filled with X's]
