42 1 religion, sex, or national origin in admission to, or employ- 2 ment in, any program established to provide apprenticeship 3 or other training. 4 (e) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, 5 (1) it shall not be an unlawful employment practice for an 6 employer to hire and employ employees, for an employment 7 agency to classify, or refer for employment any individual, 8 for a labor organization to classify its membership or to 9 classify or refer to employment any individaul, or for an 10 employer, labor organization, or joint labor-management 11 committee controlling apprenticeship or other training or 12 retraining programs to admit or employ any individual in any 13 such program, on the basis of his religion, sex, or national 14 origin in those certain instances where religion, sex, or 15 national origin is a bona fide occupational qualification rea- 16 sonably necessary to the normal operation of that particular 17 business or enterprise, and (2) it shall not be an unlawful 18 employment practise for a school, college, university, or other 19 educational institution or institution of learning to hire and 20 employ employees of a particular religion if such school, 21 college, university, or other educational institution or institu- 22 tion of learning is, in whole or in substancial part, owned, 23 supported, controlled, or managed by a particular religion 24 or by a particular religious corporation, association, or so 25 ciety, or if the curriculum of such school, college, university,
