63 1 INVESTIGATORY POWERS 2 SEC 710. (a) For the purposes of any investigation of 3 a charge filed under the authority contained in section 706, 4 the Commission shall have authority to examine witnesses 5 under oath and to require the production of documentary 6 evidence relevant or material to the charge under 7 investigation. 8 (b) If the respondent named in a charge filed under 9 section 706 fails or refuses to comply with a demand of the 10 Commission for permission to examine or to copy evidence 11 in conformity with the provisions of section 708(a), or if 12 any person required to comply with the provisions of section 13 709 (c) or (d) fails or refuses to do so, or if any person fails 14 or refuses to comply with a demand by the Commission to 15 give testimony under oath, the United States district court 16 for the district in which such person is found, resides, or 17 transacts business, shall, upon application of the Commission, 18 have jurisdiction to issue to such person an order requiring 19 him to comply with the provisions of sections 709 (c) or 20 (d) or to comply with the demand of the Commission, but 21 the attendance of a witness may not be required outside the 22 State where he is found, resides, or transacts business and the
