-4- Title VI: Nondiscrimination in Federally Assisted Programs: Noone to be denied participation in, benefits of or subjected to discrimination because of race, color or national origin; each Federal Department or agency empowered to extend Federal financial assistance to any program or activity by grant, loan or contract shall take action to effectuate same; all rules, regulations and orders to be approved by President; grants to be terminated or refused only after efforts for voluntary compliance and department or agency has filed with proper House and Senate Committees full written report 30 days prior to the action. Title VII: Equal Employment Opportunity: ("Employer" means a person engaged in an industry affecting commerce who has 25 or more employees but not the U.S. Government, or state or political subdivision or bona fide private membership club). Prohibits failure or refusal to hire or discharge or discriminate in compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment or limiting, segregating or classifying employees in any way which would "deprive or tend to deprive any individual of employment opportunities or adversely affect his status as employee "...because of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Prohibits labor organization from excluding or expelling from membership or limiting, segregating or classifying membership (certain exemptions--religious organizations and educational institutions where religious qualification is necessary, etc.); establishes an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and provides for investigations, inspections, records, etc.
