[2 emblems - one on left & one on right] United Campus Christian Ministry SERVING THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA CAMPUS COMMUNITY Central Office: 707 Melrose Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa 52240 Phone: 338-2187 Phil Shively, Roger Simpson, Sally Smith Campus Ministers, university of Iowa June 2, 1971 Dear Friends: Recent and near-recent events here at the University of Iowa prompt us to share with you some of the "happenings" in Campus Ministry, in order that you might have information on our involvements and the Church at work on campus and beyond, under numerous situations of stress and crisis. More specific information can be offered upon request, and we would be glad to share with you or with any interested Church group an interpretation of the Campus Ministry here and the critical issues in higher education. Enclosed you will find the following items, wich we hope will be helpful: 1. PROSPECTUS 70-71. A rather comprehensive summary statement of the Campus Ministry programs and events we have undertaken in the past year. We have tried to indicate the kind of ministry represented by each - prophetic, structural, pastoral, priestly (as per the Danforth Study discussions). 2. (A) EXPOSURE EXPERIENCE, 3-30-71 Summary. (B) "The world of the New Generation", schedule for Exposure Experience. These have been going on for several years. They are done with other Campus Ministers; however, Sally has been chairman and "chief arranger" during the past year. 3. MELROSE DAY CARE CENTER -- 5 YEAR REPORT. This is one of the most significant and "successful" on-going efforts of our Campus ministry and has helped pioneer Day Care development for the entire area and for the University. Sally is the general director and community resource person in these areas. 4. AD HOC COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER SPRING DISTURBANCES. This is a committee in process of trying to discover some of the basic causes of the "unrest" and identify some possible and long term solutions. Sally, Roger and Phil are all involved. 5. A brief summary of our involvements in the May Day events and their meanings as we can understand them at this time. A detailed chronological report is in process of preparation, being authored by Sally; it should be available within a week. 6. UNIVERSITY INTERPRETATION TASK FORCE. A summary of where our task forces have gone, on invitation, and of the type of meetings held. CAMPUS MINISTERS: Roger Simpson 338-2187 - Phil Shively 337-2187 - Sally Smith 338-2187
