IOWA CITY, IOWA Founded in 1839[[?]] CITY OF IOWA CITY office of the city manager Frank R. Smiley (319) 337-9605[[?]] September 23, 1971 Mr. Roger Simpson 1029 Kirkwood Iowa City, Iowa Dear Roger: The City Council earlier this year received a recommendation from an ad hoc committee of seven local citizens recommending that the City Council establish an Area Social Concerns Committee. Included in the recommendations from the ad hoc committee was that the membership of the Social Concerns Committee be comprised of the following: a. Iowa City Police Chief b. Johnson County Sheriff c. Director of Campus Security d. Captain of the State Highway Patrol for this region e. SUI Provost or Vice President f. Chairman of the Faculty Senate g. President of the University Student Body h. Three students who are politically active i. Three Iowa City business men j. An Iowa City attorney k. Representative of the Religious Leader's Association in the Iowa City area The City Council has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, September 29, 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Civic Center to discuss this proposal with members of the ad hoc committee, those individuals recommended for membership, and other interested persons who may be in attendance at the meeting. I have been asked by the Council to extend to you a personal invitation to attend this exploratory session and urge that you plan to attend and participate in the planned discussion.
