10-14-70 INFORMATION CENTER I. PRINCIPLES II.OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES I. PRINCIPLES Reference: ACM Minutes, Sept 15, 1970 "The purpose of the Information Center is to provide reliable information to the media and to the community with the hope that accurate information will diminish any crisis which may be occurring." "Four Basic Functions" (Reference: ACM Minutes, Sept 15, 1970) A. Information Gathering: this would involve monitoring the media, use of video tapes and trained observers who are highly mobile. B. Information Evaluation: all information received must be carefully evaluated as to its accuracy and relevancy. C. Information Dissemination: the Center should have direct input to tall media and it will also issue mimeograph bulletins with up-to-date information. The bulletins will need to have a distinctive symbol for identification purposes. D. Administrative Structure: coordinators need to be appointed to attend to particular matters of supplies, telephones and recruitment of staff. Coordinators are needed for each of the four functions. During the time of operation there will need to be six people on duty at all times, 24 hours a day (on four hour shifts). E. General Proposals: -1- The Center should be ready to get into operation within one hour of a major crisis on campus. -2- The Center should be autonomous with a clear role and identity. -3- The Center should not be identified with any particular interest/group. -5- Center East seems to be best place to house the Information Center. -6- Other equipment which is necessary includes access to mimeo,paper,etc II. OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES; to effect the above, these/steps are operative... A. LOCATION: at "CENTER EAST" (Catholic Student Center, Clinton&Jefferson B. TELEPHONES: Two lines (with phones) are installed,*but not usable) INFORMATION CENTER PHONE IS: 337-9691. (Phones are in a locked box, and ready for use when box is unlocked: see below) Keys to phone box will be in possession of ACTIVATORS (see below) C. Mimeograph data: mimeo paper is on hand at Center East; a mimeo. machine can be obtained from Christus House (A priority task for Team opening up Center (see below). Stencils are on hand. D. ACTIVATION PROCESS FOR CENTER AND FOR PHONES: 1. Any one of the following "ACTIVATORS" is authorized to open the Center for full operation: A. Members of the "Information Center Committee" Frank Valianis 337-5282 (351-6069) Ron Osborne 337-7500, 337-2187 Jim Narveson 338-7868 (337-5191) Walt Olsen 338-5238 (3383414) Ed Heininger 3374301 (3377346) DonHerdman 338-2893 (338-5900) B. ACM Officers or Religious Leaders Officers (as "checked-out" on the operational details of the Center. They are each expected to take the initiative and discuss these Procedures with a member of the Information Center Comm.)
