JOHNSON COUNTY HEALTH COUNCIL Review BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE HEALTH ISSUES IDENTIFIED AT THE APRIL MEETING 1. Lack of the citizen's understanding of importance of health a) professionals do not always recognize this. 2. Lake of communication between health groups. 3. Insufficient Funds. 4. Existing health programs and facilities are not meeting needs. a) aged--financially depressed--transportation b) pre-natal care delayed c) dental care not readily available. Dental College Clinic serves limited numbers. d) Alcoholism is problem--more facilities needed. e) Inadequate distribution of health man-power. f) More facilities for Mentally Retarded persons. SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENTS IN JOHNSON COUNTY Johnson County Health Council acting as a health forum plans future meetings. The Johnson County Health Council has been accepted as the sub-area group of the Hoover Health Council. A Task Force has held regular meetings. Johnson County Health Council members have met with the City Manager to interpret need of Health Department programs. Task Force Committee is recommending a survey of Johnson County. The Alcohol Information Center is in its second year. The Johnson County Association for Mentally Retarded has plans for Residence Living Situations. College of Medicine is launching a Family Practice Unit.
